Are Mp3 Files Compatible With The IPod?

MP3 files are the most common type of audio storage available online. The files are compressed so perfectly that they are small enough in size to be able to store thousands of them on your devices but still have the high quality of a CD. MP3 files offer high compatibility and give ability to play on any computer or laptop no matter what operating system they use, the majority of phones and of course they are also compatible with IPods.

The majority of the software programs that come installed on your computer when you buy it that are used for playing audio will be compatible with the MP3 compression. Windows media player, Winamp and iTunes are the most common software programs that are used for playing or for transferring MP3 files but any of the software available on the internet will be compatible with the MP3 file as well. The programs create an easy platform for not just listening to the music but for sorting, organizing, or moving the files to other devices.

With just a simple click of the mouse button you can have selected your favorite songs and chose to have them moved to an IPod, cell phone or a CD. The programs diversity in allowing you so many options at your fingertips makes them priceless to many users. You can select your music, have it transferred to your device, and be listening to it from that device in just minutes and without the need to purchase any special software.

Those who own iPods are incredibly drawn to the MP3 files. The files are available on the internet in several locations and can be bought and downloaded as singles, full CD collections or even downloaded free of charge. This makes it easy to have a huge collection of only your favorite songs that you want to listen to. You will never have to buy an entire CD again if you only need one or two songs.

Those who own iPods use it to listen to their favorite tunes while travelling, exercising or jogging, or just relaxing at home. The iPod has made large home stereo systems and even car stereos obsolete with the ability to place them on docking stations. The sound and the volume received from the IPod docking stations is the same quality you would expect from a large home stereo. The high quality that is offered from your iPod is not affected with the use of the high quality MP3 files.

The triple layered compression decreases the size of the file and never loses the quality of the song. You cannot tell the difference from listening to an MP3 from your iPod or from listening to an original CD from a quality home stereo system. The files are so easily obtained and can be transferred to your iPod without purchasing special software this makes the files a first choice for all who are downloading music online. The small size of the files adds an extra benefit since most of the iPods are able to store thousands of the MP3 files on their hard drives.

Electronic book readers are nothing new. Over the past decades, many have actually tried but failed, until Amazon that is. Ever since the Kindle, it’s actually groovy again to be reading. By and large, it is in vogue especially among the executive and academic ranks. Everyone would want one, for whatever reasons; work needs, status symbol, lifestyle and what not….. Whether you’re pro or against it, it captures your attention!

With the launch of Kindle 2 Amazon has integrated the entire business of e-reading. The Electronic Book Reader is not only filled with smart features, it’s also connected and mobile just like the cellular phone. It is essentially a cellular eBook reader in that it has wireless coverage anywhere in the US for Amazon bookstores plus browsing text-centric websites like Wikipedia, Google and others.

The original Amazon Kindle wasn’t much of a looker but you can’t say that about the new Kindle. Looking stylish and a lot more approachable than its predecessor, the Kindle 2 is also an ergonomics masterpiece. Whether it’s by chance or choice, the appearance is very Apple-like (iPod) and that’s a plus with many folks. But looks aside, it’s a functional gem in its own right.

If the Amazon Kindle 2 looks great and grab the limelight, that’s a bonus, not the original idea. But seriously, it’s supposed to just disappear into the reading. Like a good paper-filled book, it’s the proverbial judging the content and not the cover but what the heck! It’s that lucky star again for Amazon. Having that said, the technology packed into the Kindle is surely worth a mention.

The most distinctive feature of the Amazon eBook Reader is the Whispernet. This is a wireless service for acquiring content and some degree of internet access. It also carries the Whispersync feature which links other Kindles and its associated devices such as the iPhones and iPods plus others in the future. When you Buy Kindle 2, Amazon will pay for the lifetime connectivity of the particular e-reader. The network is 3G-based so it doesn’t have to be in a hotspot to operate.

Yes, the Amazon Kindle eBook Reader is but a book. And what a book! It’s any book you wish, out of 275,000 and you can carry more than a thousand of them everywhere you go and access the rest in less than 60 seconds. Amazon has publicly stated its goal of availing any book that’s ever printed in electronic form for the Kindle within the US. That’s a tall order but based on their track record, you don’t want to bet against it.

The Affordable Touch Screen Phone

In a world of increasingly popular smartphones people who cant afford a top of the line phone might have trouble finding a suitable cellular device. Many consumers just need a phone for simple messaging and phone call usage. The LG Neon is such a phone. It is a bare bones cell phone with a neat touch screen and a camera that actually takes decent looking pictures.

The LG Neon is a very nice looking cell phone. The phone doesnt have any harsh lines. The phone is smooth with rounded edges. The LG Neon is very small and doesnt weigh much, but it still feels good when held in ones hand. The sliding mechanism works well and doesnt feel shaky at all. Despite the small screen images and text will appear great on it. There are also many different options for customizing the font and appearance of the commands on the phone. The LG Neon does feature a touch screen, but strangely enough it only works for dialing numbers. To activate the touch screen dialer you must first hit a button on the navigator array. Then the buttons are displayed on the screen. The touch screen works well but being able to use it for other reasons is surely missed. Inside the slide compartment is a full QWERTY keyboard. The keys are spaced apart very generously and each button is raised above the surface. Typing on this keyboard is very easy and isnt uncomfortable. There are a number of instant messaging and e-mail linking options, such as AOL, AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger. Unfortunately Gmail is not supported by the phone because the LG Neon doesnt support POP or IMAP.

The LG Neon is also a camera phone as well. It offers many image capturing and photo controls. Despite featuring five white balance presets, three quality settings, a 4x zoom, self timer, and five color effects the phone is absent a flash. Be wary of taking photos in dark areas. The quality of the video recorded by the Neon is decent. It can appear grainy and the colors will be slightly muted. The LG Neon doesnt allow the videos to be very long, but anyone with a MicroSD card will be able to record longer videos.

The phone lacks any 3G or Wi-Fi support meaning downloading songs and content will take quite a while. It was so slow it took 12 minutes to download a 1MB song. The web browsing also suffers it can be very slow as well; websites take quite a while to load.

The call quality presented by the LG Neon is above average. The microphone on the Neon does an amazing job at isolating ones voice and not picking up any background noise, even in loud noise traffic areas. The speakerphone does not work as well though. Callers and even music played over it will sound very low.

The LG Neon is a satisfactory phone for anyone looking for something that isnt so expansive. It exceeds at providing consumers with a great phone service as well as text messaging, camera/video recorder, and basic web browsing functions.

Audience Handout Options In Microsoft PowerPoint

Audience handouts provide us with a method of giving the attendees of your PowerPoint presentations something to remember you by. They normally consist of printouts of the presentation; one, two, three, four six or nine slides to a page. Naturally, however, whether or not the essence of your presentation can be captured by this kind of printout depends on the nature of the presentation.

You will almost certainly want to personalize the look and feel of your handouts. To do this, click on the View tab of the PowerPoint ribbon and then click on the Handout Master button. In PowerPoint, masters allow you to determine the format of the three main elements within a presentation; slides, speaker notes and handouts. When you are in handout master mode, the Handout Master contextual tab appears. It contains a Page Setup section which allows you to choose the orientation of both the page as a whole and of the individual slide miniatures. It also contains buttons for activating or deactivating the header, footer, date and page number as well as for formatting the background of the slide.

Given that Microsoft PowerPoint allows you to produce three separate elements (slides, speaker notes and handouts), when the print command is used, you need to specify which of these elements you wish to print. This is done by choosing an option from the Print What drop-down menu. In addition to the three elements mentioned above, you can also print the outline of the presentation.

If you have created a presentation with a fair amount of important detail, it may be more useful to print out the slide outline and distribute it to the audience in place of PowerPoint’s usual handouts. Better still, you can export your presentation into Microsoft Word and then customise it for your audience. To export an outline, from the Office button, choose Publish and then Create Handouts in Microsoft Word.

When exporting to Word in this way, you will be presented with a dialogue box which allows you to choose one of five page layout options. Firstly, you can have speaker notes next to slides. This will create a two column layout with a slide miniature in column one and speaker notes next to it in column two. If you have used the speaker notes feature in your presentation, this may be a useful solution. The second option is Blank Lines Next to Slides: this produces the same two column layout as the first option but the right hand column is blank, so that you can enter notes next to each slide.

The first two options don’t offer you much room for text. If you have made or wish to make extensive notes on each slide, options three and four (Notes below Slides and Blank lines below Slides) provide a layout with the text below the slide miniature and leaves approximately 60 percent of the page free for notes.

If you simply wish your audience to have a summary of the content of the presentation, you can choose the final option: Outline Only. This simply exports the text on each slide into Microsoft Word.

When using any of the above Word export choices, you have the option of activating the Paste Link feature. This will create a link between the exported file and the original PowerPoint presentation, such that, if the presentation is modified, the exported Word file will also be updated.

Using Speaker Notes In Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

If you want your PowerPoint presentation to go without a hitch, it is important that the speaker knows what to say when each slide appears. One of the tools that can be used to help speakers achieve this is speaker notes. Speaker notes are simply paragraphs of text which can be entered for each slide in the presentation. Although their principal use is to act as a reminder and prompt for the speaker while giving the presentation, they can be used for a variety of purposes.

In some scenarios, speaker notes can be used as an alternative to audience handouts. Naturally, this is only possible where the notes contain a summary of the information relevant to each slide rather than personal prompts such as “Remember to tell anecdote.” Secondly, they can be used during the development process to add reminders relevant to each slide. Before finalising the presentation, the creator(s) can then check the entries in the speaker notes to make sure that they have completed everything.

If you are planning to use speaker notes in the way Microsoft intended, they can of course be printed out and referred to as necessary. However, a more subtle approach is use a two-screen setup. Display the presentation on a large monitor while on your own computer, you can view the speaker notes.

There are two modes in which notes can be added and edited within PowerPoint. Firstly, in normal view, the speaker notes pane is displayed below the slide preview on the right of your screen. Simply click to position the cursor in the speaker notes pane and edited the notes as required. You can also drag the re-size bar at the bottom of the workspace to increase the size of the speaker notes pane.

The second editing mode allows you to concentrate on the notes themselves. In the View tab of the PowerPoint ribbon, click on the Notes Page View icon. This gives you a print preview of what your notes will look like when printed and allows you to edit the notes at the same time.

If you would like to personalise the appearance of the speaker notes when printed, you can always customise the Notes Master. Masters are a PowerPoint feature which allows you to customise the format of elements within a presentation by modifying a single master element. By default, the notes master features a miniature of the slide at the top of the page and the notes area at the bottom. It also features a header and footer, the date and page number. You can drag and resize these elements as you see fit. For example, you might make the slide smaller and increase the size of the notes text block or you might move the notes text above the slide.

Danger in Disguise -Adware how to Detect it

Posted: July 4th, 2009 | Author: John Williams | Filed under: Computer | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »
by John Williams

Ask the average person what annoys them the most about their computers. At least half of them will say Adware. Usually harmless but extremely irritating, adware is often included in the installation packages of free software and once it?s there on your computer you?ll be bombarded with banner or popup ads, browser redirects and other annoyances. While adware can be exasperating, it?s also pretty easy to detect and remove these unwelcome stowaways on your system.

If your computer is suddenly, sluggish, plagued with pop-up adds or you have suddenly experienced a change in your homepage, chances are, you have adware on your computer. Some types of this software are deemed malware, and invade your privacy. It collects information about a user, and their browsing habits, and displays advertisements on your web browser based on the information it collects on your browsing patterns.

Adware with this level of sophistication has essentially become spyware, collecting data and sharing it with advertisers. This data mining is seen as innocuous to the people whose computers have adware installed, though you?re not likely to agree if your computer happens to be affected.

You?ll often find adware included with free software. Many developers of free software include adware to subsidize the costs of development and to be able to make their programs available to the public at no cost. Rather than charging the end user, the developers monetize their products through advertising revenue. It?s a sound enough business model, though the way in which the advertising is delivered is a problem for many consumers. The pop up ads, banners, browser hijacks and data mining are enough to make many people opt for a commercial alternative to adware laden free software, finding the cost preferable to the inconvenience of adware.

Adware programs are often confused with viruses. They?re both unwanted software, though adware generally doesn?t self-replicate or do anything intentionally malicious. They don?t work in the same way within your system and as such are usually detected and removed using different software. Most antivirus programs won?t detect or protect you from adware and an adware scanner won?t detect or protect you from viruses.

Adware can be identified, removed and prevented from being reinstalled with some easy to find, low cost adware scanner and removal software. There are some freely available programs for this purpose as well, but they tend not to perform as well or be updated as frequently as the commercially available alternatives. These anti adware programs are automatically updated frequently to keep your system safe from adware.

Having a quality firewall can also protect you from adware. Most operating systems have a built in firewall and the firewall included in Windows is usually sufficient, though there are also some available for a small price which provide a higher level of protection. If you?re going to purchase a firewall, make it worth your while by going for high quality instead of low cost. It should go without saying that your firewall will only protect you while it?s turned on, so don?t neglect to do this.

It is important to protect yourself, and your pc from intrusive adware. With such software being an annoying, privacy invading prevalence on the internet today, it is necessary to be able to detect this malware. It is essential to have an anti adware program and good firewall protecting you from intrusion when using your pc.

Computers have not only become the important part of everyone’s life and also the heart of their life. You can even imagine anything without having a PC that might be at your office or at your home. As the demand for it has been increased even the supply is also been increased in the price as well. The branded Personal Computer would cost beyond one’s budget nowadays. This would even apply for the parts such as the memories, monitors, motherboard and some of the other parts.

In such circumstances what one can do is either wait for some time collect some more money and go in for it or built your own computer using parts available in the wholesale market. The first option can be time consuming or may be you cannot do anything without a computer incase your computer has suddenly come up with a major problem. The second option looks better but very few of them usually go for it as the advantages of building your own personal computer with buying its parts a wholesale market is not known to many as yet.

The second option would be the best one but only some of the people usually opt as the advantages of building your own PC with buying its parts in a wholesale market is not known to many of the people till now. Well most of the people have a wrong thought in their mind that buying computers parts in the wholesale market or store can be of inferior quality or cheap ones as compared to the braded ones.

Once the order is placed for any branded company of the particular part, the manufacturers would make more than the required parts in order to avoid the sudden demand in the market in the short period of time. The parts would be produced excessively and will be sold to wholesale computer markets or the stores with the huge discounts.

The wholesaler sells these components or parts to the people who readily put in their energy and time in building their own personal computer. This way you really spent only a part of the money that you would have actually spent buying for a new branded one with the same configurations or may be better than the braded one.

Therefore purchasing any computer accessories or parts in the wholesale market or store any day is a good option and you can save a lot of money and do not compromise in the quality. Many of the dealers might have service centre or store, where they will provide you service for any technical trouble in the future for a nominal price without any compromises on the quality.

A little bit of patience and time can save you hundreds of dollars. Do not fall prey to the fancy ads and posters. Why make profit to these companies, when there are better and affordable alternatives available.

Remote Working And Homeworking

With the advances in technology companies now have at their disposal fast and secure remote access connections. Staff no longer need to be located within the office building taking up expensive office space, they can now work from home and still receive all required information and data. Data, files, Email, database access and telephone extensions can now all be received from their home.

All services such as Email, Data Files, Internet Access and Security, Applications and Company Telephone integration can all be accessed as they would if they had a desk at the office. This is also true is they are travelling abroad, a laptop, an Internet connection and the appropriate security is all they need to access the corporate network.

All facilities are available over VPN including Email, secure Internet Access, Data (Files) and Applications (Databases etc.). The homeworker receives a seamless connection that is very similar to actually being in the office. Most companies that use this method now limit on the number of workstations in the office and adopt desk sharing, this means that the staff use these terminals on a rota basis when they are in the office.

Homeworking

Homeworking and Remote Access is beneficial to businesses as their staff can work from home minimising on office space, facilities and generally lowering overheads. All that is required for the home user is a computer and a broadband connection. A VoIP telephone can be installed with a Digital Telephony system back at the office and the user can be connected to the main telephone system, have their own internal extension and answer/receive business telephone calls.

Successful businesses are always looking for ways of reducing overheads and maximising profits. The current increasing trend is employing homeworking and remote access. The main benefit of homeworking is that the office space required is minimised. With the correct infrastructure in place a remote user needs only a digital telephone (Voice over IP), a broadband connection and a computer. Access is through VPN (Virtual Private Networking) and secure tunnels through the Internet via secure protocol.
